‘Everyone Will Know?’ Not on Facebook Last Week
Users also could’t use the phrase when commenting on a post and it was also blocked from use in private messages.
According to Facebook’s Melanie Ensign, a member of its security communications team, the phrase was being blocked as part of a glitch with the company’s spam filter.
Ensign explained that the social network is constantly updating the rules for its spam-fighting engine, and that particular phrase got erroneously caught in the mix. She didn’t know exactly how long the phrase had been banned.
On Friday, someone also shared his query on Question.com as to “Why can’t you post “everyone will know” on Facebook?” Please try a different post. People has entered their comments on Sunday over a Reddit post saying that they were not allowed to post the phrase “Everyone will know” as a status or as a comment. The chat IM triggers the same motion when typing “everyone will know”. They mentioned that the first time they sent the phrase – it went through; subsequent tries, however, returned the error, leading to the removal of the initial message. “One more message being prompted with the aid of the ‘everyone will know indicated that the action could have violated the fb TOS, and it states that”, Failed to like post the action attempted has been deemed abusive or is otherwise disallowed.
If you’re wondering how the initial user could post the blocked phrase, it seems that it was all about timing.
However, there’s no way of knowing for sure, for the apparent “everyone will know ban” because Facebook keeps its cards close to its vest when it comes to this sort of thing. This assumption has brought forth hypothesis that maybe, there’s a master record of banned words and phrases that exists.
