The Surface Laptop is a direct competitor to Google’s wildly extravagant range of Pixel laptops, high-end laptops which run Chrome OS.
The latest 13.5-inch addition to the company’s Surface lineup is created to work with the company’s new Windows 10 S operating system that was also unveiled alongside the device. While many, us included, scoffed at the price-tag, it’s a whole lot worse for punters in the UK. And it’s a clear effort by Microsoft to step up competition with Google and its low-priced Chromebooks in the classroom, where the latter has made major inroads.
Under the hood, the laptop gets powered by the 7th generation Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 processor bundled with either 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB of RAM.
If users try to install an app from outside the Windows Store, they will be directed to the same app in the Windows Store, or if one isn’t available, an equivalent program will be suggested. Microsoft is looking to compete with Google’s Chromebooks and even uses a special type of the Windows 10 operating system: Windows 10 S.
The Surface Laptop comes with a 13.5-inch PixelSense touch screen display that surpports Microsoft’s Surface Pen.
Microsoft has only allowed the use of its Edge browser as the default one on a Windows 10 S computer.
Windows 10 S hopes to improve the classroom experience, with numerous features meant to link educator and student.
In the end, the Surface Laptop and the Windows 10 S have to balance everything out in order to become a serious rival for the Chromebooks.
The rugged (MIL-STD-810G certified) HP ProBook x360 Education Edition (below) will cost $299, which is $30 cheaper than the version running full fat Windows 10.
Surface runs an entirely new operating system named Windows 10 S and it supports apps that are directly installed from the Windows Store. The main difference it has on Windows 10 is that it can only run applications that are available on the Windows Store. So far there aren’t any more details regarding the specifications, but due to the slim design and the price we believe that the Surface laptop packs an ULV processors (-U). According to Panos Panay, the clamshell laptop is relatively faster than the MacBook Pro (Core i7), with longer battery life than MacBook Air, The Verge reported.
