From Washington, the Pope will travel to New York where he will hold a prayer service at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, meet with the United Nations General Assembly, visit a school and Ground Zero, and celebrate Mass at Madison Square Garden.
The Mass in Philadelphia is to begin at 4 p.m. Sunday along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. He has said, “I’m a loyal son of the Church”.
Members of the Family Life Apostolate for the Archdiocese of New Orleans as well as a group from St. Anthony of Padua in Luling and Deacon Allen Stevens from St. Peter Claver will be in Philadelphia for the pope’s events there. Numerous city streets will shut down, including around the Capitol on Thursday. There will be more than 40 Jumbotrons set up along the parkway, with no guarantee they will be near one, the diocese said.
“He (Pope Francis) speaks directly of providing for the homeless, the children, those in prison, those who are disturbed with mental illness or physical illness”.
“People are pretty excited. Those are all works of catholic charities here in the archdiocese”, Hebert said. “And I’m the person when something comes up”.

Papal visits are unique by nature, but Pope Francis’ popularity and message of inclusion is drawing in many more visitors, of all faiths, and bringing unprecedented security to protect them.
“Right from the get-go, he paid his own bill at the hotel the night he was elected”, Colomaio said. “Usually, there are hundreds of thousands of people, so your opportunity to get up close and personal, unless you’re very lucky, is somewhat limited”.
