Ewan McGregor defends gay character in ‘Beauty and the Beast’
“And that’s what has its payoff at the end.it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie”.
According to Daily News, the “Beauty and the Beast” live-action reboot of the earlier animated classic from Disney introduces a gay character LeFou (Josh Gad) for the first time.
“I thought it turned out he doesn’t actually say”, Colbert says. “What would Jesus think?” he said.
“He’s a gay character!” I knew I had horse training, I knew I had dancing, I knew I had three months of singing ahead of me and I knew I had to be in London to really do that. He calls it one of her cruelest jokes as the book will allow him to travel anywhere in the world, but he won’t use it as he doesn’t feel comfortable being seen in public looking the way he does.
“Parents are therefore strongly advised to provide guidance to their children about this remake of “Beauty & the Beast”, and indeed to their children’s entertainment choices in a rapidly changing age”, the statement said. On the other hand, Emma Watson was offered the lead role in “La La Land”, but turned down that film to star in “Beauty and the Beast”.
Ewan McGregor, who voices charismatic candelabra Lumière in the film, has hit out at the backlash, saying during an appearance on Irish TV: “It’s 2017”.
In response, numerous film’s stars, including McGregor, have spoken out in support of the film’s decision to include an LGBTQ character.
“I’m glad Disney has grown up”, he said. “I wore blue for both premieres, and she ended up in blue in the movie, so it’s kind of a lucky color”, O’Hara recently told PEOPLE at the film’s Los Angeles premiere.
Beauty and the Beast, a live-action remake of Disney’s classic animated feature, has garnered some global controversy for including a homosexual character.
In brighter news, Beauty and the Beast arrives in theaters here in the USA on Friday (March 17) uncut, although at least one Alabama drive-in has declined to show it.
