Ex-Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit called for questioning by ACB
Congress declaring Sheila Dikshit as its Uttar Pradesh chief ministerial candidate indicates that BJP won’t act against her over corruption cases in Delhi, Water Minister Kapil Mishra claimed today, and asserted that the veteran leader has to go to “jail”.
While addressing the Delhi Assembly, Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal said, “Now that we have submitted a report on the scam to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lt Governor Najeeb Jung, the former should ensure that Sheila Dikshit is sent to jail within two months”.
Ahead of the next big gamble on the radar, as BJP and Mayawati’s BSP are roaring to trounce the ruling Samajwadi Party, the Congress is not seen as a main player, but UP being the most populous and politically key state, Dikshit’s new role is going to attract attention.
“As I have said (in the past) this is a politically motivated thing, that’s all”, Dikshit said, adding that “she will definitely abide by it (ACB summons)”.
Both BJP and Aam Aadmi party said Dikshit’s appointment was a signal that Congress has accepted defeat in Uttar Pradesh.
Meena said previous government has committed irregularities and incurred a loss of 400 crores and Sheila Dikshit has to answer for it even though Congress party tried to downplay the current situation.
Responding to question as to how she would help the party rise from the current low position in the state, she said, “Every election is a challenge”.
“Congress is a sinking ship and has no relevance in the state”. Not new to UP politics, Ms Dikshit is the daughter in law of Brahmin Union Minister and Congress Leader of UP Uma Shankar Dikshit.
Her 15-year tenure in Delhi as CM ended with the emergence of AAP in 2013 polls in which Congress lost power. “It is not necessary to fight the election to be appointed as the chief minister. We have been victims of malicious campaign in Delhi to undermine our work”, he said.
Interestingly, Dikshit is not a local UP leader. There were first reports about Rahul Gandhi being his party’s face in UP and then Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was projected. The Congress managed to win only eight seats in the 70-member house in that election.
