Ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer Allegedly Accused Of Choking Woman At Plaza Hotel
Eliot Spitzer assaulted a young companion at the Plaza Hotel Saturday evening, sources said. When detectives arrived at the Plaza, Spitzer, a combative onetime prosecutor who once delighted in calling himself a “steamroller”, was in her room, trying to calm her, Kaufmann said. The woman said during the call she was having a breakdown, the Post reported.
Authorities have not yet interviewed Spitzer who has not been charged with any crime, People reported.
In reference to the assault claim, Spitzer’s spokeswoman Lisa Linden said: “There is no truth to the allegation”.
Mr Spitzer resigned from his governorship amid a prostitution scandal in 2008.
Mr. Spitzer left the hotel but heard from her again a couple of hours later, he said.
The woman is now headed back to Russian Federation.
The allegations led to Spitzer’s resignation from the post of New York Governor in 2008, a year after his term began.
Following the altercation, the woman was taken to the hospital with self-inflicted cuts to her wrists, said the CNN source. Spitzer’s spokeswoman said the former governor knows the woman but said she is not his girlfriend. The woman was reportedly on her way out of New York City last night. She said she would tell the police that she attempted suicide “as I had before”.
Spitzer has to resign in distress after news paper reports said he had patronized a high-end prostitution racket.
When Spitzer answered the door the second time, the cops noticed broken glass, blood, and pieces of clothing on the floor.
The woman’s relationship with the former governor is unclear at this time.
His wife Silda Wall initially stood by him, but the couple, who have three daughters, divorced in 2013. Nevertheless, the NYPD is still investigating the woman’s allegations. No other details were given.
