Ex-Newcastle and Sunderland stars ‘alienated’ by Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers reveals that the last four years have been “traumatic” in his personal life.
Enrique admits he has been “alienated” by Reds boss Brendan Rodgers after joining Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini in being left out of pre-season preparations with the senior squad.
He told Spanish newspaper Marca about his plans, saying: “I am in a hard position”.
Lucas seems to have no real place in Liverpool’s side right now, and at 28, in the prime of his career, Lucas isn’t a player who’s going to want to sit around on a bench doing nothing.
With all this new talent the Liverpool manager has a wealth of talent at his disposal and is facing a massive selection dilemma ahead of the new season. Myself, [Mario] Balotelli and [Fabio] Borini have been alienated.
“I had a very good option to return to Spain”, he said.
“If a good opportunity came with more years of contract and more options to play, I would study”.
“I will not give up”. I am fit after two years with knee discomfort and with only one left-sided defender [Moreno] I know that if I stay I’ll play. I can’t even imagine what would happen to me if I ever experienced the same circumstances in such a short period of time.
He’s just four short of making 200 Premier League appearances for the club but could leave before the summer transfer window closes. “I want to prove that some people are wrong”.
“But [it] is complicated because the economy is very different from what exists here”.
After being left out of Liverpool’s squad in their season-opening match, the Brazilian midfielder seems to be headed out the door at Anfield.
“The only teams that can deal with what is paid in England are [Real Madrid and Barcelona], so I would love to stay here until my legs stop me”. Liverpool make a lot of money, but aren’t quite in the same bracket as the other giants of English football in terms of their income, so they can’t afford to waste value like that.
