Ex-NFL player Taylor arrested on DUI charge in Florida
Authorities say Taylor drove his Bentley into a motorhome and sideswiped a patrol auto when switching lanes Friday evening in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Taylor, 57, was entering the turnpike from the Beeline Expressway at 5:22 p.m. when the crash happened just south of exit 107.
The crash only damaged the patrol car’s side mirror and no injuries were reported, according to the news station, which cited Florida Highway Patrol.
He was taken to Wellington Regional Medical Center to receive medical clearance before being admitted to Palm Beach County Jail.
Taylor, who was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1999, has had a history of legal troubles.
He also has been arrested twice for attempting to buy crack from undercover cops and was suspended during his career for using drugs.
In June, Taylor’s wife was arrested in nearby Pembroke Pines for domestic violence after throwing “an unknown object” at the star player, leaving a three-inch gash in his head.
Taylor, 56, had managed to stay out of the limelight in recent years, having no run-ins with the law since a May 2010 arrest for allegedly raping a teenage girl.
Meanwhile, his son, Lawrence Taylor Jr., was sentenced last year to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to statutory rape, child molestation and aggravated sodomy.
His wife, Lynette Taylor, was arrested on domestic violence charges in June after police said she got into an argument with her husband and started throwing items across a room in their home, striking him in the back of his head.
