Ex-Pro Bowl RB Foster reaches deal with Dolphins
Foster agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, a person familiar with the situation said. Foster the vegetarian running back formerly of the Texans will try to resurrect his career with the Dolphins. It is hard to see him doing it in 2016 coming off of the Achilles injury. Since becoming the Texans starting RB in 2010, Foster has only played all 16 games in a season twice (2010 and 2012). Ajayi, a fifth-round pick from Boise State in 2015, carried the ball only 49 times in last season to the tune of 3.8 yards per carry. You just can’t count on Foster to be there for you week in and week out. Two. It is no surprise that Foster would significantly improve one of the NFL’s worst rushing teams. The injury was suffered in a game against Miami in October.
The Dolphins will have the chance to evaluate how Foster can contribute to a largely unproven backfield. But he’s surely worth a flier for teams that need another back to add to their stable.
With the departure of Lamar Miller to the Houston Texans in free agency, many assumed the Dolphins would be more aggressive than they were in acquiring a potential heir to Miller’s carries.
With the injury and a high guarantee in play, the Houston Texans made a decision to move on from Foster after the season. That plan was thwarted when Anderson made a decision to return to Denver. So now it looks like those teams are swapping backs. When he’s right, Foster has always been among the top handful of running backs in the National Football League, but that has been hard for Foster to maintain.
But as always with Arian Foster, he has to be healthy enough to be on the field first.
Foster has played in 25 of a possible 48 games over the past three seasons.
