Ex-sheriff’s deputy charged in 2 Ohio killings surrenders
A former deputy has been indicted on murder and other charges resulting from two separate shootings while he was a deputy in southern Ohio.
A woman answering the phone in the office of an attorney listed in court records for Jenkins said Friday that he isn’t representing the former deputy.
Last week, Jenkins charged with involuntary manslaughter in a neighbor’s fatal shooting at the deputy’s home on December 3.
Messages seeking comment were left at a possible number for Jenkins and for his attorney.
Investigators say 40-year-old Jason Brady died of a gunshot wound to the head.
Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth tells The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1YaP0eh) that Joel Jenkins never made it out of his probationary period when working for him in 2011 and 2012.
“Major Timothy Dickerson and Deputy Joel Jenkins took over the pursuit, which led them to the area of Fields Hollow Road, where Rooker continued to ignore their lights and sirens, eventually ramming their cruisers with his vehicle and other actions which forced deputies to discharge their duty weapons to defend their lives”. Jenkins had a gun specification added to his involuntary manslaughter charge and is now also charged with reckless homicide with a gun, and tampering with evidence. He was briefly jailed but posted bond and was released.
Jenkins is now free after posting bail for the shooting of Brady, but an arrest warrant in connection with the new murder charges will be issued on Friday morning, officials said.
