It’s a risky precedent that our justice system has set, and we can expect these violent crimes to continue until we begin taking seriously the threat that men like Turner pose. It led California lawmakers to pass a tougher sexual assault law and prompted an effort to recall the judge. He plans to live with his parents in Ohio. Lawyers say the requirement will make it hard for him to find jobs and housing.
Turner was convicted of assaulting the young woman near a trash bin after they drank heavily at a fraternity party in January 2015. Turner was sexually assaulting her when two graduate students passing by on bicycles confronted him, pinned him down as he tried to flee and called police. Turner, then an Olympic hopeful, unsuccessfully argued that the encounter was consensual.
He returned to California in March to stand trial on three felony counts: assault with intent to commit rape of an intoxicated or unconscious person, penetration of an intoxicated person and penetration of an unconscious person. If he waits longer than 72 hours, he’s required to meet with his probation officer here, since he’ll be on probation for the next three years. OH prison officials earlier this month agreed to take over supervision of Turner’s probation.
The woman who was sexually assaulted by Brock Turner nearly didn’t go out the night of the rape.
– Protests are taking place across the Bay Area against Judge Aaron Perky, the judge who gave Turner his sentencing, one that many believe to have been too lenient. The victim said it wasn’t fair that Turner’s loss of his athletic career was taken into consideration when sentencing him.
“Every day, I have to relearn that I am not fragile; I am capable; I am wholesome; I am not just the livid victim”, she said. Vice President Joe Biden wrote a public letter to the victim saying, “I do not know your name – but your words are forever seared on my soul”.

In the aftermath of the decision, Persky faced widespread criticism and last month announced he would no longer hear criminal cases, at his own request.
He’s expected to return to his family’s home in the suburbs of Dayton, Ohio.
Fischer said his department will notify Turner’s neighbors informing them that a convicted sex offender is moving nearby. Fischer says Turner will have to register every three months at the sheriff’s office, reaffirming that he’s still living with his parents.
