Ex-Texas A&M Player Suspected In Brutal Attack On Jogger
Dallas police investigate a man stabbed and killed on White Rock Lake Trail, his body was discovered Monday morning.
Police said they found Johnson after he called 911, and several people witnessed the attack, the newspaper reported. “Absolutely random”, Dallas police deputy chief Rob Sherwin told The Dallas Morning News.
The arresting officer spoke to Johnson at the scene and the former wide receiver told him “I just committed capital murder” and then repeated the statement. “It’s very unusual. It’s quite shocking”. Texas A&M police issued a missing persons report for Johnson.
Brandon, who happened upon the alleged murder in progress, said he saw the man strike his victim six or seven times with the machete.
“I couldn’t understand him doing anything but trying to get himself back together”, said Anthony Billard, who watched Johnson grow up. He was later found safe in Dallas, and never returned to college football.
Johnson last appeared in an Aggies uniform in 2012.
The victim of the killing is an unidentified white male that was between the ages of 25-35. He will be charged with murder. However, two days after the Alabama game, Johnson disappeared. “He just went down”, one person said.
In April 2014, his mother, Linda Hanks, told Brent Zwerneman of the San Antonio Express-News that Johnson was working on a comeback to the football field. The troubled man had just been kicked out of his house recently, and just past year he was involved in a few incidents, that led to his arrest. Johnson broke into his aunt’s home and stole her vehicle and an undisclosed amount of money.
Records show he had multiple violations of the terms of his probation, including for testing positive for marijuana and failing to complete community service.
