Ex-Trump adviser denies any campaign contact with Russians

A man seemingly matching that description, Rinat Akhmetshin, was quoted by AP later on July 14 confirming his presence at the Trump Jr. meeting.

Trump Jr., his brother-in-law Jared Kushner and then-campaign manager Paul Manafort were known to have attended the meeting with Veselnitskaya and music publicist Rob Goldstone, who brokered the get-together promising campaign dirt on Hillary Clinton. Akhmetshin is reportedly a former Russian counterintelligence officer, which he denies.

The go-between stated that the discussion was part of a Russian government effort to help the GOP candidate. He said that “as part of her work, with her clients”, Veselnitskaya found that individuals connected to Russian Federation were funding the Democratic National Committee in support of Hillary Clinton, and that she’d “left a document behind” after the meeting.
