Ex-Trump adviser denies any campaign contact with Russians
A man seemingly matching that description, Rinat Akhmetshin, was quoted by AP later on July 14 confirming his presence at the Trump Jr. meeting.
Trump Jr., his brother-in-law Jared Kushner and then-campaign manager Paul Manafort were known to have attended the meeting with Veselnitskaya and music publicist Rob Goldstone, who brokered the get-together promising campaign dirt on Hillary Clinton. Coincidence? Irina Agalarova has represented her family in the past, but Gorokhova was not the translator present.
The HRAGIF’s registered lobbyist was Rinat Akhmetshin, who took United Kingdom citizenship in 2009.
Akhmetshin’s lobbying caught the attention of Sen. Grassley was requesting “all information” on Akhmetshin’s immigration history.
Akhmetshin is reportedly a former Russian counterintelligence officer, which he denies.
Futerfas also said that when he talked to that individual, he laughed when he asked him if he worked for the Russian government. “And I don’t think there’s anything here”.
He added: “Mr Akhmetshin is a Russian immigrant to the U.S. who has admitted having been a “Soviet counterintelligence officer”.
The email chain released Tuesday indicated there was another person at the meeting. After that, Trump Jr. lost interest, according to Akhmetshin.
“I was literally the only person wearing jeans and T-shirt” at the meeting, Akhmetshin told the daily.
“This is everything. This is everything”, Trump, Jr. replied.
MCEVERS: What do Donald Trump Jr. and the White House have to say about Akhmetshin and the fact that he was at this meeting?
Vice President Mike Pence said he and the president expect the Senate to vote on the bill next week.
In 2015, lawyers for the Russian mining company International Mineral Resources claimed in the US District Court of the District of Columbia that Akhmetshin helped organize the hack, theft and dissemination of private documents. The go-between stated that the discussion was part of a Russian government effort to help the GOP candidate. He said that “as part of her work, with her clients”, Veselnitskaya found that individuals connected to Russian Federation were funding the Democratic National Committee in support of Hillary Clinton, and that she’d “left a document behind” after the meeting.
Anderson Cooper tonight faced off with Jay Sekulow, a member of President Trump’s legal team, over the continued revelations about the Don Jr. meeting and new reporting today about at least eight people being in the room.
“The goalposts have been moved”. “We were promised hard evidence of systemic sustained furtive collusion”.
The scramble to respond to the details trickling out may have exposed some White House aides to special counsel scrutiny.
A bipartisan chorus of criticism arose from that meeting over the past week, as federal investigations of Russian meddling in the 2016 USA election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign loom large over the Trump administration.
