Ex-US intelligence chief rejects Trump wiretap accusation
In another tweet Mr Trump posed the question: “Is it legal for a sitting President to be “wire tapping” a race for president prior to an election?”
As of this writing, all of Pres Trump’s meetings today are closed to press coverage.
A federal agency can also ask a federal district judge for a warrant to conduct electronic surveillance on USA citizens it believes are committing serious crimes.
A pair of senators are working together from across the aisle to get to the bottom of President Donald Trump’s explosive allegation that President Obama wiretapped the phones at Trump Tower during the 2016 election season. “This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!”, Trump said in a series of tweets on his Twitter account early on Saturday.
“One of the focus points of the House Intelligence Committee’s investigation is the USA government’s response to actions taken by Russian intelligence agents during the presidential campaign”. James Clapper, former director of national intelligence, said Sunday that “there was no such wiretap activity mounted against the president-elect, at the time, as a candidate or against his campaign”.
Asking Congress to conduct a much broader investigation than originally envisioned also ensures the Russian Federation issue will hang over the White House for months.
Trump spokeswoman Sanders said that the president wants Congress to investigate this bullshit, obviously in hopes that it will take the heat off of his perverted sexual relationship with Mother Russia.
“The president’s in trouble if he falsely spread this kind of information”, Schumer said.
Under U.S. law, presidents can not direct wiretapping.
Despite those accusations, Spicer predicted Monday that the relationship between Obama and Trump would remain functional.
Spicer, who declined to identify any specific piece of evidence to support Trump’s claim, said the President asked Congress to investigate based on those unnamed reports.
US Representative Devin Nunes, Republican head of the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee examining possible links between Russian Federation and Trump’s campaign, said in a statement that any possible surveillance on campaign officials would be part of the probe. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said this month he would recuse himself from Trump campaign-related investigations after he appeared to mislead senators during his confirmation hearing about his contact with Kislyak during the campaign, when he was a senator.
Trump and Obama have not spoken since the inauguration, the source told NBC News, adding that that they were supposed to connect, but their schedules didn’t align. He also said FBI investigators and Justice Department officials must get approval from a federal judge to do so.
Among the many questions on my mind this morning: does Comey have any regrets for intervening in the presidential election last October and helping put Trump in the Oval Office?
