Except George Lucas: Everyone liked the new ‘Star Wars’ movie
“I love [the movies], I created them, I’m very intimately involved in them, and I sold them to the white slavers that take these things and …” he said, before breaking off with a nervous laugh. Lucas has apologized for criticizing Disneys handling of Star Wars and saying he had sold his characters to white slavers in a recent interview with Charlie Rose.
During the Charlie Rose interview, Lucas expressed his frustration with the style of The Force Awakens. I have to say, this is one of the best Star Wars of all the six previous movies.
That is probably the most I can say without entering into the now unsafe territory known as “spoiling” – but I cannot really leave you with just a paean to Abrams. Gone! History! I’m moving forward.’ Because every time you do… something like that, you’re opening the wound again, and it just makes it harder for you. Make no bones about it, George Lucas is a genius, but lashing out like this is video proof of a rich old man learning Star Wars is humming right along without him.
Worldwide, it has displaced “Iron Man 3” (2013) to become the No. 9 highest-grossing film, scoring $1.22 billion against that Marvel movie’s $1.215 billion.
Lucas, 71, spoke with the “CBS This Morning” co-host about his decision to never direct another “Star Wars” film, along with the direction of the latest installment, released earlier this month.
“They decided they didn’t want to use those stories”. Deadline reports that North American box office totals for the year have topped $11 billion, with the tally estimated to hit $11.1 billion by the end of the year. The movie has been running to packed houses across the country, and “Star Wars” fans across all ages have been flocking to theatres to watch Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac deal with the remnants of the once mighty Galactic Empire. And, with George Lucas – who recently sat down with Rose – he got a bit of both. According to Box Office Mojo, “The Force Awakens” has set more than 35 box-office records, including the fastest movie to reach $100, $200, $300, $400 and $500 million. He also offered specific praise for longtime Lucasfilm president and producer Kathleen Kennedy, and “The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams.
