Experts offer tips to help keep kids safe on Halloween

More than three‐quarters of Americans will hand out candy to trick‐or‐treaters this year and many others will participate in community‐sponsored Halloween events, display a seasonal candy bowl or attend a Halloween party. While costume selection can vary from superhero to fairy tale princesses and everything in between, it is wise to help your child choose a costumer that motorists can see at night.

New this year at Goodwill they have Master Costume Helpers who will make sure your little monsters leave with a costume they love. Children also should wear well-fitting, sturdy shoes. Older kids should be reminded to keep to familiar areas that are well lit and to treat-or-treat in groups. If it’s dark, make sure someone has a flashlight and pick well-lighted streets.
