Explaining Kingdom Hearts HD II.8’s weird Title
Since Kingdom Hearts 0.2 is using the technology that will ultimately power Kingdom Hearts III, the game can not be made available on the PS3, like every other major kingdom Hearts game so far has been- hence the PS4 exclusivity, Nomura explained. At the same time, the release of some additional titles that surround the main one has been the subject of some confusion among certain fans, especially those who are new to the franchise.
In an interview with Famitsu (courtesy of Kotaku), we finally have an explanation as to the freaky nomenclature behind the recently announced Kingdom Hearts II.8.
Square Enix director Tetsuya Nomura’s explanation of Kingdom Hearts II.8’s title makes about as much sense as the series’ overall story.
“Since Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover/Kingdom Hearts Unchained is supposed to be the first game in the mainline series, that is being represented as “0” in the collection”. Since the release of Kingdom Hearts 2 there have been numerous spin-off games and secondary titles, many of which carry random, nearly purposefully obtuse, titles.
AttackOfTheFanBoy revealed that while “Kingdom Hearts 3” release date is expected to come in 2017, no confirmation on the matter has been revealed yet.
Nevertheless, if players are hoping to get the full Kingdom Hearts story heading into the release of Kingdom Hearts 3, then they will likely want to pick up Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.
“Kingdom Hearts 3” is the latest installment to Square Enix‘s “Kingdom Hearts” franchise that brings lead character Sora in adventures throughout various Disney worlds, with classic characters Donald Duck and Goofy as sidekicks, of course with King Mickey guiding their way. In fact, some would argue that Kingdom Hearts 3 was up there with Half-Life 3 and The Last Guardian as one of the most-requested sequels around.
Kingdom Hearts HD II.8 Final Chapter Prologue is set to release for PS4 in 2016.
