Explosion and Gunfire Heard at Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul
Two gunmen open fire on police standing guard at Istanbul’s Dolmabahçe Palace Wednesday afternoon with automatic weapons and grenades. Earlier, gunfire was heard earlier near the entrance to the Ottoman-era building, which is popular with tourists and also houses the prime minister’s Istanbul offices.
The Dogan news agency says no one was hurt in the attack and the two assailants were quickly caught.
The reports said that according to current information there were no reports of fatalities or injuries.
The roads around the palace complex have been sealed off and ambulances arrived on the scene, according to Turkish daily Hurriyet.
It also comes hours as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to consult with the parliamentary speaker later on August 19 to discuss the formation of a new government.
Turkey has rounded up more than 1,000 people linked to ISIS, the Kurdish rebels and leftist militants.
