Extra security installed after Carphone Warehouse hack
Dixons Carphone, the JV parent of Carphone Warehouse, confirmed that details including customers addresses, bank details, dates of birth are feared to have been stolen.
A leading cyber security firm had been hired to findout what information had been compromised.
This specific division is responsible for operating the websites for OneStopPhoneShop.com, e2save.com and Mobiles.co.uk.
Sebastian James, group chief executive of Dixons Carphone, said the company was informing anyone who may have been affected.
The company assured its Carphone Warehouse customers in Ireland that their personal data was not affected by the cyberattack.
Carphone Warehouse, the UK’s biggest independent phone retailer, has confirmed it has been the target of hackers.
News of the hack has unsettled customers, many of who have questioned the company’s security systems.
Mr Gander added: ‘I want the ICO to investigate this breach properly, and I want Carphone Warehouse to compensate their customers as well. He tweeted: “This is the #Infosec department at #carphonewarehouse – sorry we can’t take your call right now – all of our agents are busy just now…”
Carphone Warehouse has urged customers to keep tabs on their online accounts and bank statements for any suspicious activity.
“If you have not received a communication from us regarding data security, your information should not be impacted and this message does not apply to you”, the company explains.
“Armed with the data they already have, attackers are likely to try and trick those affected by the breach into revealing further details, such as account numbers and passwords”, said Thierry Karsenti.
Some customers voiced complaints that they were not told quick enough, asking why if the breach was discovered Wednesday, the company waited until Saturday to notify them.
“There will always be more cyber criminals looking to exploit the situation and trick you into sharing information a legitimate company would never ask for”.
