‘Eye of the Tiger’ Author Sues Another Conservative Over Use of Song
Speaking to Rolling Stone after Huckabee used the track, Sullivan said: “I do not like mixing rock and roll with politics; they do not go hand in hand”.
The Republican politician had the “Rocky III” theme song blaring out of speakers at a Kentucky rally for local county clerk Kim Davis in September when she was released from jail after serving a short sentence for refusing to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples on religious grounds.
The song was played as Huckabee, the conservative former Arkansas governor, escorted Davis out of the Carter County Detention Center, where she had spent six days in jail in September for contempt of court.
“Mr. Huckabee is sophisticated and knowledgeable concerning the copyright laws”, the lawsuit states.
Rude Music asked to be awarded reasonable attorney fees, disbursements and costs from Huckabee, as well as any other relief the Court may find necessary, according to court documents.
No comment yet from the Huckabee campaign.
The lawsuit was filed today in federal court in IL, by Rude Music, Sullivan’s company.
Then Sullivan took to the band’s Facebook page to spell things out clearly to the public. We did not grant Kim Davis any rights to use my tune “The Eye Of The Tiger”.
“I do not agree with Kim Davis’ stance and do not believe in denying gay rights and the freedom for all individuals to choose the lifestyle they want to live,”he said. C’mom Mike, you are not The Donald but you can do better than that”, he added, leaving one last send-off”.
