FA Cup: Liverpool beats lowly Exeter, Spurs oust Leicester
Premier League title chasers Leicester City have made nine changes from the starting lineup that started in the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa for today’s replay clash with Tottenham.
Son Heung-min’s thunderous finish helped Tottenham Hotspur secure a 2-0 victory at Leicester City and Liverpool eased past fourth-tier Exeter City 3-0 in FA Cup third-round replays yesterday.
Pochettino said: “I am very pleased with the performance, it was a fantastic victory against a very good team”.
“So every selection and every game is important because we are Tottenham, and we are in a very difficult period when we need all the players fit and motivated and working hard”.
Son Heung-Min packs a punch on this evidence, despite Spurs fans questioning his suitability to play as a striker.
“I want to see all my players – like Pochettino, he also changed a lot of players”. “They were better than us”.
With Leicester flying high in second place in the Premier League, Ranieri was philosophical in defeat.
For Tottenham, who must also harbour ambitions of becoming champions, it means another game in an already busy schedule.
Ranieri went on to admit that the league is the Foxes’ top priority this term. Both sides played 2-2 in their first meeting. The winger is still looking for his maiden goal in a Leicester shirt.
Leicester’s Gokhan Inler got a free kick on target but it was a comfortable catch for Vorm and, at the other end, Erik Lamela headed over from a deep cross by Davies before Spurs took a deserved lead. The South Korean collected a pass from Tom Carroll towards the right-hand side of the penalty area and unleashed an unstoppable shot which beat Schmeichel at the near post.
For all the host’s pressure, it was undone once more shortly after the hour mark, Son slipping a neat throughball into Chadli, who coolly converted Tottenham’s second.
However, Spurs did grab that second in the 66th minute through Chadli after a delightful through-ball from Son. Ranierii introduced Vardy, but to no avail.
Substitutes not used: Hugo Lloris, Jan Vertonghen, Kieran Trippier, Harry Winks.
