Facebook bug accidentally shows how many people viewed your post
Facebook bug shows how popular a few users really are by revealing the count of how many times their posts are viewed on the site.
“Similar to how Facebook now display the number of views under videos posted on its site, this bug lets you see the number of views on any article or video link, including those from new media and other official organization pages”, reported by the Verge.
These kinds of statistics are usually only available to page owners – individual users should not be able to see any kind of statistic beyond the number of likes and shares on their posts. That’s the official statement, but a quick and negative response from Facebook users may have been the catalyst to kill off this feature.
The discovered bug only affects the mobile website of Facebook, and is not present on the desktop version of the website nor on the mobile apps of the social network.
Seeing the numbers of views, or the lack of it, seemed to have not pleased the general public.
It is unclear what has caused the bug to emerge, but according to The Verge, Facebook is already working on a patch to once again hide your true level of popularity.
It shows whether the person who viewed it clicked on any links, or on your profile, or on any pictures embedded in the tweet.
A study done by Stanford University researchers and Facebook’s data science team in 2013 revealed that the average Facebook user only reaches about 35 percent of their friends with a single post.
