Another session on the F8 schedule is called “Introduction to the Camera Effects Platform”, and it could signal a way for developers to submit their own filters and photo frames.
The beta is closed right now, but is successful, this would be the tool that really set Facebook Stories out of the pack – particularly because, at its launch, it didn’t offer anything that either Instagram and Snapchat didn’t already. However, the social network is now trying to integrate the experience into our phones. AR is largely seen as a part of the larger VR space, but it is easier to get into the hands of consumers because almost every one of Facebook’s users has access to a mobile phone camera. In March, for instance, it introduced Facebook 360 for Gear VR.
There are eight different VR-related sessions at this year’s conference, which represents nearly 20% of all the breakout sessions. “Facebook takes some pretty big swings at the fence and they strike out a lot”, said Patrick Moorhead, president and principal analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy.
When Facebook launched Building 8 last April, there were several unanswered questions about what it is developing and when we would see the first products. “But we look at this and see something different”. Your friend will be able to leave an augmented reality sticky note on the menu, letting you know which menu item is the best or which one’s the worst when you hold your camera up to it. Building 8 has been loading up on specialists in customer hardware, neuroscience, and mechanical autonomy and PC vision.
