Facebook Dislike Button Yet To Come But Scammers Exploit It
After being persuaded by millions of users all over the world, Facebook says that they are now working on its new feature, the “dislike” button, and will be testing it soon.
Enter the scammers. Picking up on people’s anticipation for a “dislike” button, a new scam circulating on Facebook prompts users to click to “get newly introduced facebook dislike button on your profile”. I can just hit “dislike” on a post and have my name appear on the list of people who dislike this post.
Facebook’s “like” button is pretty popular but users have often asked for another button that will allow them to express their feelings of discontentment.
The scam tricks the user into liking a page and sharing the link with their friends.
Hackread writes that it hasn’t been confirmed that anyone has been infected with malware through the dislike button scam yet, but advises that users “stay away from these malicious links because they won’t be providing you with access to the dislike button”.
These all constitute major red flags.
While this is our opinion and there is a possibility that we are wrong about the emoji button, the company recently said that it is planning to test something like a dislike or empathy button, which we believe will be this. It’s not a thing, and it’s not going to be, so don’t fall for it.
The announcement was made by Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.
“Not every moment is a good moment”, he said, adding that creating an appropriate option for a pushbutton response is “surprisingly complicated”. In a nutshell, they are nothing more than scams. If you still don’t get an idea, think of something similar to the emojis we use on the mobile messaging app, WhatsApp.
