Facebook has missed a trick or two with its limited Reactions
But Facebook will not differentiate between the responses to determine a user’s interests when it places ads and other posts in a customer’s news feed.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg wrote: “Not every moment you want to share is happy”.
“That’s why today we are launching Reactions, an extension of the Like button, to give you more ways to share your reaction to a post in a quick and easy way”.
Just like before, when tapping something you previously liked made it go away, you can undo or change a reaction by tapping on it. No one ever needs to know about your passive aggressive “haha”. People wanted to express empathy and make it comfortable to share a wider range of emotions.
The testing, in Spain and Ireland, led to two reactions being trimmed from the initial list: “yay” and “confused”.
Many expressed distress that this feature may show the way to reduced use of language and less interaction.
Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said in September the company was thinking of adding a “dislike” button, which spearheaded a debate over whether it would increase cyber bullying and negativity on the site. “We’ve been listening and we thought there should be more ways to express how you feel about something in the newsfeed”.
This certainly seems to be the initial reaction to Reactions – there just aren’t enough of them. The company responded to this saying that the six basic emoticons were introduced after a year of research and finding the most preferred emoticons from users’ activity through stickers. Now you can choose another Reaction (we recommend the Sad button). The three most popular reactions will be shown on each post.
For complains over inaccessibility, the company has said that it will take few more days for the feature to be rolled out globally across all platforms including iOS, Android, and Windows. Facebook also said that the new reactions will be available to users to express reactions to all posts, including those from groups and brands. According to the news, the ” Yay” emotion which is also expected to be released was not seen in the Wednesday’s launch video.Facebook users also expecting a “Dislike” image in the list of emotions.
