Facebook Just Got Rid of Something Everyone Hated
“And as always, please let us know how we can make this better for you”. The Messenger app for iOS and Android didn’t even offer access to those messages. Similarly, messages from the contacts that a user has on their synced mobile will also be directly routed to their inbox.
Thankfully, this is set to change: Facebook has announced it will be phasing out the “Other” section, replacing it with something far more practical. Moreover, it can come handy in urgent situations like someone trying to connect with you to return your lost wallet.
Business Insider said “Message Requests” will have users receive a message request notification from a person outside their social network via its main inbox.
This section is extremely well hidden: a quarantine area for messages Facebook considers unsafe or untrustworthy.
If you’re not someone who chats on Facebook often, you might not realize that there are two inboxes for your messages. Which means that you can choose whom of the non-friends you keep conversing with and whom will suffer the pain of being forever ignored.
That last part is critical. The same goes for email addresses. “They could sell it to someone one else”.
Phone numbers are both a blessing and a curse.
The result was an initial level of security that if surmounted, opened up opportunities for harassment.
The rule is pretty simple, all someone needs is your name in order to contact you, where you have control over whether they can contact you.
Speaking with random strangers just became a whole lot easier with a new service called “Message Requests“.
You just need to type the name to connect with your favourite persons using Message Requests. At least you’ll know they were sent though, which is an improvement on the current position.
The news may also change how easily journalists contact sources. And there’s already a payment system built into Messenger. But the folder was only accessible through the desktop version of the social network, and users weren’t notified when new messages landed there. The barrier to a deeper connection has been dismantled.
