Facebook launches 360 app for Gear VR
On March 8, Facebook announced a new app for Samsung’s Gear VR.
Gear VR is one of the oldest and most fleshed out mobile virtual reality platforms that now exists, and today Facebook revealed that it would be brining new software over to the headset in the form of Facebook 360.
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has unveiled an app known as Facebook 360 for Samsung Gear VR devices that allows users to discover 360 content that has been publicly shared. It’s free from the Oculus Store.
Ever since 360 content has been available to Facebook users, the format has become increasingly popular, with anything from skydiving or experiencing far-away places now available to view in 360 degrees.
Facebook’s virtual reality unit said in a blog post that more free video content is available for viewing within Oculus Rooms, including music videos from Vimeo.
As of now, the livestreaming feature is only available to Gear VR owners who don’t live in the USA, but Facebook said the feature would debut to everyone “in the coming weeks”. Recently, the social media giant introduced the Facebook 360 video app for use exclusively with the Samsung Gear VR. Also, tell us if you have a Gear VR to stream to Facebook Live! At launch, it will feature four feeds from which you can view 360-degree content. They can also choose to visit the Oculus website to get started and download the app. Apart from that, the company has also revealed that it should now be easier to discover 360 photos and videos. Facebook has also announced that it is prepping more social features to bundle with its VR app. Facebook always has an upper hand when it comes to engagement in any form thanks to its almost 2 billion userbases.
