Facebook Messenger now Allows Android Users to Send SMS
Facebook will differentiate between Facebook messages and SMS with contrasting colors: Facebook’s will be blue whereas SMS will be purple.
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has successfully integrated SMS into its Messenger app meaning users can now receive their SMS messages through Messenger.
The SMS portion of the app supports rich content like Videos, Images, Stickers, Video Clips, along with locations, something that is more of an evolutionary step in SMS like what Apple unveiled in WWDC 2016 with iMessage. Do you miss sending SMS to Android smartphone from Messenger?
Facebook Messenger is back with another hidden gem of a game, this time allowing you to kick (or poke) a soccer ball around with friends. By then switching on the choice for “Default SMS app”, they will be able to use Messenger for all text messaging. Of course, messages will be sent through the carrier from its SMS/ MMS channels, and Facebook claims that these SMS’ will not be transmitted through Facebook. Regular text message fees apply.
Once you integrate your SMS into Facebook, you will begin to see both your texts and IMs on the same screen.
“We want to make it easier to stay in touch with all the people you care about”. The app has more than 900 million monthly active users and more than 1 billion messages are exchanged every month between individuals and Messenger-using businesses or pages, according to the Messenger page on Facebook.
Who incurs the charges for sent SMS?
In its blog post, the company mentioned that it is optional to use the Messenger app as a default SMS client. With enabling of SMS feature, the social networking behemoth is touting Messenger as your one stop solution to all of your texting needs. Marcus says the update is rolling out to most countries today, and will be available for most users.
