Facebook now has 1.01 billion average daily users
Facebook, which was founded in 2004, reported a 14% jump in monthly active users to 1.55 billion people year-over-year as of its third quarter results. About 1.01 billion people checked Facebook at least once a day in September, the company said.
“We’re just so early in this right now”, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said when asked about video on the call.
The iconic tech entrepreneur added that the group had been focussing during the quarter on innovating and investing for the long term and that it was with a view to serving “our community and connect the entire world”.
A total of 1.39 billion access the site each month on their mobile devices, 894 million of these on a daily basis.
“Their core mobile-advertising business is still very strong and has a lot of runway”, Josh Olson, an analyst at Edward Jones & Co., told Bloomberg.
The good news saw Facebook’s share price soar, helping it break yet another company record – reaching a $300bn (195m) valuation for the first time. Facebook’s mobile advertising revenue represented approximately 78 percent of advertising revenue for the third quarter of 2015 – up from 66 percent of advertising revenue in the third quarter of 2014, the California-based company said in a statement.
Compared to the four billion views of videos in April, now Facebook has double the number at eight billion video views every day, seen by five hundred million people.
Market research firm FactSet StreetAccount had predicted 1.53 billion monthly active users, with 1.36 billion on mobile.
Net income was $896 million, or 31 cents a share, up from $806 million, or 30 cents a share, a year ago. Analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of $4.37 billion for the quarter.
Excluding a few expenses, Facebook reported earnings of 57 cents USA a share, above the 52 cents US a share projected by Wall Street analysts. Facebook shares have risen 33 percent so far this year.
