Facebook rolls out new ‘breakup’ tools to help you forget your ex
In the age of social media, moving on can be a bit more complicated. Every time you login, it’s like you are entering a giant football field full of booby traps. The kind where you want to look really chill and over it … but actually don’t ever want to see your ex’s face again.
Well, Facebook is here to make sure that doesn’t happen anymore.
“Starting today, we are testing tools to help people manage how they interact with their former partners on Facebook after a relationship has ended”.
As a way of making break-ups easier, Facebook says it will offer users the option of “limiting” how often you see an ex when you change your relationship status.
“This work is part of our ongoing effort to develop resources for people who may be going through hard moments in their lives”, she added.
“When people change their relationship status to indicate they are no longer in a relationship, they will be prompted to try these tools”, reads the Facebook blog post.
“When a relationship ends, we’ve heard from people that they sometimes have questions about the options available to them on Facebook”, writes product manager Kelly Winters. The social network, all without actually unfriending or blocking them. Out of sight, out of mind, right?
The new tools will start rolling out for mobile first in the U.S. Facebook will continue to make changes and expand availability based on users’ feedback.
That handy feature is powered by the magic of network topology, a math/science in which Facebook uses all the information it knows about you to estimate blanks in its network. It’ll help, we promise.
