Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg loses control of social media
The Twitter and Pinterest accounts of the Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg were taken over by the hackers in recent days, it has been reported. The group also claimed to have access to Mark’s Instagram(owned by Facebook), but we saw no suspicious activity on his profile.
You precariously try to keep your social media accounts and its security in check, so that none of your friends could get access to them and play a prank on you.
A hacker group called Ourmine, which has more than 40,000 Twitter followers, claimed responsibility.
Some reports suggested that the 2012 hack of LinkedIn may have been responsible for the breach.
Both Twitter and Pinterest rapidly restored control of the accounts over the weekend, and the rogue posts have now been removed, Ars Technica website said.
On the other hand, OurMine also posted what it claimed was Zuckerberg’s LinkedIn (and possibly Twitter and Pinterest) password.
It seems that the Facebook founder has committed one of the cardinal sins of cyber-security and used the same password for different accounts, resulting in a public shaming.
Twitter, however, has two factor authentication, requiring a credential other than passwords to access an account. To be fair, Zuckerberg is a bigger target than most people, but that wasn’t the real reason his social media accounts outside of Facebook were compromised.
We’ve been told over and over again by online security experts not to use the same passwords for multiple sites.
The company invalidated passwords for all accounts created prior to the 2012 breach and asked users to regularly change their passwords, choosing a strong password that was a combination of letters, numbers and symbols.
Mark Zuckerberg’s Twitter and Pinterest accounts were reportedly hacked for a short time on Sunday, after the highly insecure password “dadada” was leaked.
