Facebook’s Oculus to take pre-orders for Rift from Wednesday
In a post on Medium over the holidays, Digg founder Kevin Rose predicted that virtual reality will fizzle in 2016.
The countdown has begun for Oculus Rift pre-orders, with Oculus VR announcing that they will go live this Wendesday, January 6th at 8am Pacific Time. Oculus has announced that the Oculus Touch, the set of controllers for the VR system, are to be delayed until the second half of 2016. As part of its preorder announcement, Oculus stated it will “be sharing everything you need to know to order your Rift“, indicating a date and price may be finally revealed on – or just before – Wednesday.
“Eve: Valkyrie is one of the most anticipated virtual reality games, and one of the first true VR games to go into development”, Luckey, said in a statement quoted by Gamespot.
Designed exclusively for the Oculus Rift, Lucky’s Tale puts you inside a rather vibrant, inviting world, and tasks you with “racing with Lucky through lush trees, dodging swamp pits, battling menacing bosses, or mastering mini-games”. The firm has said the finished consumer-ready headset should be in the “same ballpark” as the $350 cost of its earlier prototypes.
Meanwhile, Engadget indicated that Oculus plans to release other titles along with “Rift”. Down the road, though, consumers will also be able to purchase the companion Oculus Touch controller which you wear on your hands, improving your virtual interaction with the visual headset.
Oculus VR has confirmed it will open pre-orders for the consumer Oculus Rift headset tomorrow, though has not yet indicated when the hardware will ship nor how much it will cost. Should we hear anything on price before January 6th, we’ll be sure to post it, but it looks like Oculus wants this Wednesday to a pretty special midweek affair for gamers everywhere. We appreciate your patience and promise Touch will be worth the wait.
