Facebook’s real-time news app is reportedly called ‘Notify’
Facebook is reportedly looking forward launching the app by the end of October.
A couple of months ago it was rumored that Facebook was working on a new app that would be able to deliver breaking news to users and inform them of it via notifications. Notifications options appear to be divided into both “providers” (likely publishers and content creators), as well as ‘stations, ‘ which appear to be specialized collections of stories or content within each publisher (you can choose to just follow election news on Huffington Post, for example).
If it becomes a fully-fledged app, Notify will add another facet to Facebook’s ever-growing interest in news. This helps in quickly downloading photos, videos and articles in the Facebook mobile app, which is said to be 10 times faster than the standard mobile web.
Leaked screenshots from the app appear to show how it works; from what we can tell, Notify lets you subscribe to and receive notifications from news outlets.
Facebook isn’t just a social network or a public company.
According to statistics, almost no media network or company has managed to establish a well designed smartphone app that its readers – or a lot of them – actually use; at least nowhere near the capacity of Facebook.
Besides all the above, Notify will also be a challenge for Fecabook’s rival social network, Twitter, which also launched a new feature last week called Moments, that lets Twitter curate tweets into different categories, such as news and sports.
Now all news organization will also have a chance to create their own moments and upload with their content which will ultimately attract more readers and hence users as well.
