Facebook Security Checkup Tool Keeps Tabs on Security Settings

Security Checkup was designed to walk users through all the security tools available to them, one by one, while asking them which ones they would like on or off.

The first step helps you log out of devices you haven’t used in a while or forgot about, so you’re only logged into Facebook where you want to be.

Large technology companies have long led their users to security and privacy features.

If you’d like to trigger a Security Checkup right away and you’re not seeing the warning popup, this can be done from a special page in the Facebook Help section. The feature makes it easier to find security controls, and the move is reminiscent of Facebook’s introduction of the blue dinosaur last year that explained privacy laws without users having to read through extensive documentation. Also, people would start seeing the reminder for Security Checkup on top of the News Feed in a week’s time.

From there you can turn on login alerts so Facebook will let you know if your account is logged into from a new device or browser. Once you get it and select “get started”, you’ll be presented with a three-step process. We recommend not using your Facebook password anywhere else online, never sharing it with anyone, and avoiding common words that may be easy to guess. It can also be used to monitor logins and check for suspicious account activity, acting as a handy centralized hub for everything security-related.

Mobile users don’t worry, Facebook hasn’t forgotten you, especially after yesterday’s 2015 Q2 results, and will be launching Security Checkup with its mobile apps pretty soon as well.
