Facebook Tests Watch Later Button
Facebook has been experimenting a lot for the past few days, like they changed their logo, changed Friends Icon and Groups Icon and they are also working on Moneypenny, their new virtual assistant. The social network has started to test a “Watch Later” button for videos on the desktop, TechCrunch reported.
While getting users to watch more video is one motive behind the new feature, you can also bet that Facebook will be keeping track of when you use it just like it does with every other interaction you make with videos.
Now, Facebook wants to expand that even more. The social media giant announced earlier this month that it is testing out “Suggested Videos” feature (new ad-supported video feature).
With the “Watch Later” option now being offered by Facebook for desktops, users will henceforth be able to tag videos which they do not want to watch right away, but may like to watch at some point of time later on. Facebook’s own user base numbers over 1.4 billion, but it it relatively new to video streaming compared to the veteran YouTube, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in February. Users who have tagged a video for later viewing can subsequently find the videos under the “Saved” tab on the left-hand side of their News Feed.
The benefits for users are fairly small – how often does a video strike your fancy so strongly you must see it later? – but the potential benefits for Facebook are very big.
