Facelifted VW up! gets revised styling and new turbo engine
Volkswagen just announced it will have two offering for the upcoming Geneva Motor Show 2016. Completing the makeover are new wheels and colour choices – the latter being Teal Blue, Coral Red, Costa Azul (blue), Honey Yellow, Edelweiss (white), Blueberry and Savanna Gold.
Although the teaser doesn’t reveal much more than its front end, Volkswagen did say that the concept will feature hardly any switches inside and will serve as a conceptual bridge to the BUDD-e that made its debut earlier this year at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
Rumoured to preview an actual production auto rather than a vehicle designer’s flight of fancy, the new SUV is expected to be based on the Volkswagen versatile MQB platform.
Under the bonnet, a new 1.0 litre turbocharged TSI three-cylinder engine joins the range, developing 90 PS and 160 Nm. It’s capable of getting the Up to 62mph in 10.0sec, with a top speed of 115mph.
Volkswagen will be at the Geneva Motor Show next month where they will be showing off their new Volkswagen small SUV concept.
Even the interior lighting is personalised – buyers of high up! variants get white ambient lighting, in cross up! models the colour is orange, and electric e-up variants get the signature blue colour. These mid-life changes are created to give the Up a more stylish exterior and more customisation options for the cabin, allowing it to compete more strongly against rivals such as the Fiat 500, Hyundai i10 and Smart ForFour.
There’s more equipment on offer, too: all up! model now come with LED daytime running lights and remote central locking, while Move up! trim adds a USB port, five-inch display screen and a smartphone-enabled stereo. Features include a powerful 300W sound system with seven speakers, including a subwoofer in the boot for powerful bass.
