Fake Degree Row: AAP MLA Surinder Singh submits his documents to Delhi
The party feels that its MLA from Delhi Cantonment Surinder Singh could be the next target as he is under the scanner for submitting a fake degree. “We also said that if they need to make arrests with regard to the issue they are free to do so”, he added. It is on Tanwar’s petition against Singh that HC is examining if the AAP leader’s graduation degree is genuine.
Surender Singh is the second AAP legislator – after erstwhile Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar – to face allegations over educational qualifications. The Delhi Cantt MLA said that he will surrender before the Delhi police commissioner.
Other party leaders including Dilip Pandey, Pankaj Gupta, Sanjay Singh, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Deepak Bajpai were also present at the conference. The party workers were lead by Sanjay Singh who said that they want to show the world how Bharatiya Janata Party is working.
“The Centre is trying to suppress the AAP by arresting our leaders and MLAs”.
“In this case, Surinder Singh is a victim and not an offender. I made a mistake by entering the wrong university but I do have a degree and have passed out from a university”. “If the university turns out to be dubious, then the MLA can not be blamed for it”, he said.
“I was awarded the degree in 2012”. Instead of my EIILM University (Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in Management), which is in Sikkim, the Sikkim University got printed on the affidavit. However, the RTI response from the university states that the AAP leader does not exist in its records.
Singh, who’s the MLA from Delhi Cantonment, moved court hard the Centre’s July 8 notification appointing Tanwar because the NDMC vice-chairman and in search of cancellation of his appointment, saying the transfer is a biased one and “in blatant and utter disregard of the process prescribed beneath Section 4 of NDMC Act”. Referring to a recent rape case in which a police officer is allegedly involved, he took a jibe at the police, saying it was busy arresting AAP leaders, but had turned a blind eye to its own officials. The Home Ministry, during Tuesday’s brief hearing opposed Singh’s claim and said the oath has no relevance since the BJP leader was appointed by way of a notification.
