Fake ‘gau rakshaks’ want to fuel tension: PM Modi
Earlier, in his speech at a public meeting at Gajwel in Medak district, Modi called for isolating and punishing fake “gau rakshaks, saying they were out to destroy the social fabric”.
Attacks on Dalits by cow vigilante groups across the country have been occurring for quite some time.
“They are not in a position to digest that their vote bank is losing and are making all efforts to see that Dalits do not embrace the BJP, ” he said. “This is a social problem. Then alone can we take the nation to great heights”, the Prime Minister said. He also said attacks against Dalits should stop and said it is a social problem which shouldn’t be politicised.
On Sunday, Modi went a step further and accused the cow vigilantes were hell bent on creating tension in the society. Speaking at the event, Shri Narendra Modi said that 125 crore countrymen were the high command of his Government.
“If you want to take revenge, fire bullets at me”.
“I feel angry when people, in the name of cow protection, do business”.
Hundreds of people were detained in western India last month when protests against an attack on four low-caste villagers who were taking a cow to be skinned turned violent.
“Cow is an asset and it can never become a burden”, he remarked. “Cow’s importance is linked to the country’s economic development”, Mr Modi said.
“India is a land of diversity”, Modi said, adding that protecting our country’s unity and integrity is our primary responsibility. A Gau-Bhakt (cow devotee) is different, Gau Seva (cow protection) is different.
“We are trying to get a fair representation of people from across the country”. There is a need to punish these people.
He said the centre and states were now working together.
“But now, a new crop of fake cow vigilants have grown”.
On the subject of handloom, the Prime Minister described “Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Fashion” as one of the principles that could serve as a guide for the people. But he choose to keep silent although he tweets on any other subject under the sun. “They would be selected from among the regular users of MyGov, based on their ideas, level of engagement, questions and suggestions”, said MyGov Chief Executive Officer Gaurav Dwivedi.
With Dalits across the state up in arms against the government’s handling of the issue, the party could face the heat in the elections next year.
“Why has the PM not uttered a single word against the atrocities committed in his own state Gujarat?” he asked. Kharge, an Opposition leader in Lok Sabha, also told the media that one needed to inspect the intention behind PM Modi’s statements. He said at a time when the world is discovering the merits of organic fertilisers, cow protection acquires more significance.
