Falcons’ Roddy White upbeat after meeting with Quinn
Head Coach Dan Quinn also chimed in following the report, and spoke with Roddy White about his role on the team.
White complained about his diminished role in Atlanta’s offense earlier in the week. I imagine it’s frustrating for Roddy White, who for so long was the Falcons number 1 option at receiver, so it’s understandable that he’s not used to such a balanced offensive effort. “My role is what it is”. “We sat around and just talked about what I wanted to do, what I expected, and [where] I wanted to come from, from this point going forward”. But he also focused on the camaraderie of his players, who seem to have taken to a frenetic, high-energy approach that includes loud music blaring at every practice.
The Falcons (4-0) have relied on receiver Julio Jones, who leads the National Football League with 38 catches, and dual-threat running back Devonta Freeman.
White, 33, said he’s taking a positive outlook into Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins.
After winning only 10 games the last two seasons, the Falcons are 4-0 for their new coach.
What Quinn said is the crux of this whole ordeal: the opportunities have not presented themselves yet.
White met with Quinn before Thursday’s practice.
“We just talked about football, my role in the offense and what it’s going to be”. I walked out of there with my head up, and it went well. I really believe that as the year goes on the ball’s going to find different people. Leonard Hankerson has emerged as the second-leading receiver with 241 yards on 17 catches and 29 targets. I mean the way people are defending us, and having to adjust to where Julio Jones is at, coverage is going to allow other guys to step up and make a lot of plays. “We made tapes for everybody saying, ‘Here are a few things that you’re doing really well, and here are a few things you can improve upon.’ To a man, the challenge was, ‘Can you have the best offseason you’ve ever had? He’s always been professional, and one of the best teammates I’ve been around”.
“He’s going to do what he needs to do to help the team win”, Jones said.
“It went good; it went good, ” he said.
“She played such a big role in me being where I am today, so it was important for me to be there with her”, he said.
