Fall TV: ‘Heroes Reborn’ revisits popular NBC series
The series “Heroes Reborn” will be officially released on the NBC channel from this Thursday, September 24th.
“I think a hero is anyone who embodies self-sacrifice that uses whatever they have at their disposal-time, resources, energy to make other people’s lives better”.
Two such vigilantes include Luke (Zachary Levi, “Chuck”) and Joanne (Judith Shekoni, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2”), who are seeking to avenge a tragic loss.
But his role in the miniseries Heroes Reborn could redefine him. Reborn is trying for a metaphor here between the Evos and other discriminated minority groups in our own world, but it’s handled with a heavy hand, and the message gets somewhat confused as potential antagonists who serve as the audience’s lens attack the Evos.
The first of six thrillers, initially published as eBooks and audiobooks with an anthologized print edition to follow, courageous New World addresses many previously unanswered questions, offers new information about characters, and treats readers to a deeper examination of the Heroes universe.
That said, I’m loathe to write Heroes Reborn off just from these two episodes. Tommy and his mother are Evos who have been on the run in this modern, anti-powered people world. If the original series and new reboot weren’t as diverse as they are (from the very beginning), the big issues they wanted to look at and sense of global world-building would stand out as simply implausible and whitewashed. “Heroes Reborn” picks up four years later as a blast levels Odessa, Texas, killing thousands in town for a human-Evos Unity Summit, supposedly including indestructible Claire Bennet (actress Hayden Panettiere is busy on “Nashville” and doesn’t return).
The second clip features Carlos (Ryan Guzman) and his brother having another argument. Also dead is any chance of regular people accepting evos since Mohinder Suresh (returning Heroes player Sendhil Ramamurthy) is credited as the mastermind of the terrorist attack.
“Heroes Reborn” is engaging if you never much cared about the original show or can’t really remember it. If you were one of the loyalists, you’ll find seeds of some of the same problems that eventually eighty-sixed “Heroes”.
There are a lot of characters keep up with here, which takes some concentration. This highly anticipated 13-episode event series will reconnect with the basic elements of the show’s first season, where ordinary people were waking up to the fact that they had extraordinary abilities. An expert swordswoman (Kiki Sukezane) in Tokyo can jump in and out of a video game and is on a mission to save her kidnapped father with the help of a video gamer (Toru Uchikado) who stumbles upon her secret.
For fans of the original, the slow pulse and routine feeling of much of the early exposition can be forgiven as long as tokens of the earlier series are introduced with sufficient regularity and reverence. Were you a fan of Heroes? However, the show is limited only to 13 episodes.
If you gave up on the show, you should probably give it a few episodes on the VOD service and watch to see if it comes together.
