Falling tree near Pasadena children’s museum injures 8 youngsters, 3 critically
The tree uprooted shortly around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at Brookside Park, near the Kidspace Children’s Museum, 480 N. Arroyo Blvd., said Lisa Derderian, Pasadena Fire Department spokeswoman. “And at that point we got a headcount and ensured that we did have accountability for all children, and that’s really when the first responders – who did a fabulous job – arrived on scene”.
Two people were in critical condition and another six were injured when a tree fell Tuesday evening near a children’s museum in Pasadena, authorities said.
It wasn’t immediately known what caused the huge tree to fall just as the Kidspace Children’s Museum was closing.
Several children were outside the camp waiting to be picked up when the tree fell.
The school has a number of day-camp summer activities for children and about 33 had been attending Tuesday’s program.
Fire officials initially reported that one of those injured by the tree was an adult, but later confirmed that all the victims were children. “Some parents had been there to pick up their children, others were on the way”.
A search and rescue team, firefighters and police officers cut and tore limbs from the tree as they searched for people who may have been trapped. Paramedics treated another child on the ground but there’s no word on the childrens’ conditions.
