Fallout 4 smashes Steam concurrent user number set by GTA 5
Meanwhile, the Grand Theft Auto V numbers only reflect those playing the game on Steam, which is not a requirement.
We’re not even halfway through the day yet, and already Fallout 4 is slaughtering the competition.
GTA 5’s record had, incidentally, broken the previous benchmark set by another Bethesda game, Skyrim, which shipped in 2011 and drew in about 280,000 users. Valve‘s two most popular games, Counter-Strike Global Offensive and Dota 2, have previously amassed about 820,000 and 1.26 million concurrent players respectively. While the accomplishment is indeed impressive, it’s important to note that the feat only takes non-Valve developed games into account.
However, that was the record, and Fallout 4 has smashed it. How big is this game going to get? Which, the latest data from Steam Charts just about confirms. Of course, it was a port of a game many people already owned on consoles, and traditionally, the series has been thought of as a “console franchise” first and PC second.
Bethesda’s open-world RPG hit a peak user number of 290,461, which is nearly 100,000 more users than GTA 5 managed at launch when it reached 196,700.
These figures come with a few caveats – Fallout 4 requires Steam to play, so this will cover both physical and digital editions of the title.
