Family confirms Boca Raton business woman died in OH plane crash
NBC News reports a small plane clipped electrical and telephone wires, before plowing into an Akron apartment residence and bursting into flames. There are no survivors.
Family members say one of the people aboard was Florida real estate executive who was with others scouting potential sites for shopping centers in Ohio. Their business jet took off from Lunken Airport Tuesday, November 10, and made a stop in Dayton before heading to Akron.
NTSB Vice Chairman Bella Dinh-Zarr said that they are looking at weather conditions and recordings from the plane’s cockpit voice recorder as possible leads as to what caused the plane to crash.
Weaver was 36-years-old and leaves behind a wife. A year later, the Weiners formed Pebb Enterprises with their son and son-in-law, and moved to Boca Raton, according to the death notice.
The plane, a 10-passenger Hawker business jet, was approaching Akron Fulton worldwide Airport when it slammed into a four-unit apartment building at about 3:00 p.m., killing nine people including the crew.
Pebb Enterprises, based outside of Boca Raton, issued a statement that said “our hearts are broken” with the “unimaginable loss” of two principals and five employees.
“I’m just in shock and in disbelief”, Ferrera said.
Dr. Lisa Kohler, the Summit County medical examiner, told reporters that her office will use its “mass fatality plan”, given the scope of the tragedy.
The plane went down about two miles out from the small airport in Akron.
The National Transportation Safety Board said that it has reviewed surveillance video that shows the plane seconds before it hit the building.
“The situation could have been worse”, Lt. Bill Haymaker of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Pebb Enterprises released a statement this morning about employees lost in the crash, but has declined media requests for interviews.
It could take days to recover and identify the victims, Haymaker said. “It is heavily burned, and that what lies the problem with the recovery at this point, and that’s why we have the specialists”, Haymaker said.
