Family: Man shot during St. Louis post-game mugging paralyzed
A Florissant woman suffered every mother’s nightmare in downtown St. Louis Friday night when her son was shot walking to his auto after a Cardinals game at Busch Stadium.
Chris Sanna was walking just outside the Old Cathedral at Walnut and Memorial Drive around 10:30 p.m. when he and his girlfriend were approached by a pair of men in a black sedan, KMOV reports.
The couple complied and turned to run away when the gunman shot Sanna. But the suspect fired several shots in their direction, hitting Sanna in the back.
After his girlfriend called 911, Christopher Sanna lay on the pavement and called his mother’s cellphone but could not reach her. So he left a voicemail that said: “Mom I’ve been shot”.
Chris served in the Army for 6 years, I watched him grow, become a man, a soldier- and now he will likely never walk again. She told the “St. Louis Post Dispatch” “there was no hope for him to walk”.
The automotive store manager in St. Louise County was rushed to hospital and was joined by his adult daughter, mother and brothers as soon as they could be alerted.
However, police have admitted that so far they are stumped. They were within arm’s reach, ‘ Candis Sanna said. A auto stopped at a red light, and the door flew open.
Candis Sanna, left, and Christopher Sanna in a picture from the family’s GoFundMe page to help pay for Christopher’s medical bills.
“After she gave him her purse, [one perpetrator] pulled a gun”, Candis Sanna told KMOV.
“I know they are doing their best, but there has got to be something more. We do everything we can to support our teams, we love them”, Candis said.
