Guerrero, 22, was a pre-finance major, and his boyfriend Leinonen, 32, received his bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2007 and master’s in 2009. Now, family members are planning a joint funeral for the pair. “I want some information”, he said.
“He was a attractive kid, a hard worker, friendly, sweet person”, he added. In losing him, the 61-year-old man explains, “I lost part of my life”.
His son’s birthday is in a few days – and the family still plan to celebrate. “My wife will cook all the food he likes”, the older Guerrero said. Guerrero’s father hopes to organize a joint funeral for his son alongside his son’s boyfriend of two years, the grief-stricken dad told Time magazine. ‘They were honestly so in love. When Guerrero’s family arrived at the hospital in Orlando just blocks from Pulse after the shooting, they found his name on a list of victims and were told by hospital staff and the Federal Bureau of Investigation that he had died. They included Juan P. Rivera Velazquez, 37, and Luis Daniel Conde, 39, who had been together 13 years.
“They said there’s a lot of dead bodies at the club and that’s a crime scene and they can’t identify anybody so it could be hours and hours before we find out”.
“He came up and gave me a hug and we chit-chatted about hanging out soon”, Zuninga said.

A mother who can’t get in touch with her son after the deadly shooting at an Orlando nightclub said she is waiting desperately for word. “They’re killing our babies!”
His father is a former Detroit police officer and can’t help but wish his son or anyone one in that club would have been armed that night – so they could have fought back. Leinonen, a psychologist originally from Detroit, started a gay-straight alliance in high school and recently won the Anne Frank Humanitarian Award for his work as a gay activist.
“She always laughed, she always had a smile”, he said.
