Family of 4 dead in OH house explosion
The blast at a home in Northfield Center Township Monday night leveled the house and killed the four people who lived there, according to OH fire officials.
Cincinnati police said a father accidentally shot his own 14-year-old son, thinking he was an intruder early Tuesday. Authorities did not immediately identify the victims.
Investigators have been combing through the wreckage Tuesday to determine what caused the blast.
The cause is under investigation but Northfield Center Fire Department Chief, Frank Risko, said they do not believe gas was the cause.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and saw flames shooting from the house.
The names of the children have not been released.
Randy Nickschinski lives two doors down. There was a lot of fire, a lot of debris. The family’s dog ran out, but when they yelled for the family members, no one responded.
“It was hard for everybody because there’s mom trying to protect her kids it looked like”, said Risko. It’s hard. This is our first fatality as long as I can remember…
Meanwhile Nickschinski’s daughter, Danielle, told the website that she had been a babysitter for the family’s two young daughters. “Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the family and the entire community as we all grieve the loss of this very special woman and her family”. “They always wanted to play”.
“The test determined that our lines remained intact and that there were no natural gas leaks”, Durban told the News Leader.
He said neighbor Jim Russo joined him and also entered the house to try to find the family, also without success.
