After Abdulazeez returned, he seemed more mellow to his friends, less interested in partying.
The family sought, without success, to get him treatment for his mental illness, and to keep him away from a group of friends with whom he would drink and smoke marijuana, the family representative said.
The officer also wrote that he noticed “a white powdery substance” under Abdulazeez’s nostrils, and that he appeared unsteady attempting to stand.

The women of the family always wore head coverings in accordance with their Muslim faith, Jones said.
