Fan critically injured in fight outside Dodger Stadium
The fight broke out in a stadium parking lot about 10:30 p.m. Friday, after the New York Mets 3-1 victory over the Dodgers, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
A Mets fan was reportedly punched and fell to the ground, hitting his head, which started bleeding profusely. Detectives were interviewing witnesses and reviewing stadium surveillance footage, Hernandez said.
However, witnesses told the Los Angeles ABC affiliate that the fight took place between Dodgers and Mets fans and that the injured party was a Mets fan.
Horrified witness Maria Cerecer caught the scene on camera. “We got free rally towels that night, so they were holding the rally towels to his head”, she said.
The injured Mets fan remained hospitalized Tuesday, in critical but stable condition.
Witnesses said the suspect was a tall man with blond hair.
Investigators have released few details other than the fight apparently began as an argument between fans that escalated to the physical confrontation.
The incident is drawing comparisons to the beating of San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow, who was disabled from brain damage suffered in an attack on Opening Day 2011 in a stadium parking lot outside Dodger Stadium.
Stow sued the Dodgers and their former owner Frank McCourt, blaming them for the attack because of insufficient security and lighting.
