Fans in NYC to Mark 35 Years Since John Lennon’s Death
It’s hard to believe, but it was 35 years ago Tuesday that John Lennon was shot and killed.
Brandon Flowers was among a host of stars who paid tribute to John Lennon in NY over the weekend as part of a 75th-birthday benefit gig for the late Beatle.
In a 2014 interview on U.K. TV program The Jonathan Ross Show, Paul McCartney discussed how he felt after hearing the terrible news of Lennon’s death.
Thirty-five years later many have remembered Lennon for his music, lyrics and passion for love and peace in the world. He was sentenced to 20-years to life in prison, and now remains behind bars. That’s why we never mention his name.
A fan of the late John Lennon places flowers a top the “Strawberry Fields” tile mosaic in Central Park, which was created in tribute to the musician, to mark the 35-year anniversary of his death on December 8, 2015 in New York City.
It’s not the first time old examples of Lennon’s humour have come to the fore though, and not always in such innocent cheeky fashion. The music icon was shot three times outside his NY home by Mark David Chapman.
The loss of the beloved 40-year-old member of The Beatles provoked a debate over gun violence that is eerily similar to the current national conversation sparked by a shooting massacre last week in San Bernadino, California. Earlier in the evening Lennon had been at the Record Plant together with producer Jack Douglas where the pair were mixing Yoko Ono’s “Walking On Thin Ice”.
He was rushed in a police vehicle to St Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center, where he died.
“This was no robbery”, the spokesman said, adding that Mr Lennon was probably shot by a “deranged” person.
His wife, Yoko Ono, who is understood to have witnessed the attack, was with him. An unacknowledged President who stood for peace, Lennon is inextricable from their memories of Vietnam and the moratoriums….
John Lennon was born in 1940, when the bombs were general all over England.
