Fans pay tribute to late Alan Rickman at Platform 9 3/4
Aside from Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, other “Harry Potter” actors also paid tribute to Alan Rickman, including twins James and Oliver Phelps, Matthew Lewis and Evanna Lynch.
Rickman died three days ago with family and friends by his side, after a secret battle with cancer.
Fans of the late actor placed cards, flowers, and photos at the platform in London to pay their respects.
“Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling posted two tweets to express bereavement.
Radcliffe, who played Harry, said Rickman “was one of the first of the adults on Potter to treat me like a peer rather than a child”.
You probably have noticed it – this writer is a huge fan of The Simpsons, having followed the series since childhood, celebrated its best seasons through high school and college, and still kept on watching even as many consider the show a relic of the ’90s.
Rickman starred with the real Hugh Grant in Love Actually as the on-screen husband to Emma Thompson. “You have understood and loved Snape more than any of us and a part of him dies with you”.
Platform 9 3/4 is where Potter departed for Hogwarts via the Hogwarts Express, and is marked by a permanent installation at Kings Cross, comprising a trolley – complete with luggage and birdcage – disappearing into a wall. “It’s really upsetting”, said fan Sarah Winfield, 25.
As a postscript, here is Alan Rickman with Johnny Deep singing “Pretty Women” in Stephen Sondheim’s “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”.
Celebrity deaths dominated the headlines this week. You will be missed sir. Others took to online fan forums. He was so encouraging of me both on set and in the years post-Potter.
“Shock gave way to sadness which gave way to exhaustion. Onto the next great adventure Alan!”
Millions know him from the Potter films, in which he played Hogwarts teacher Severus Snape, who was either a nemesis or an ally – possibly both – to the titular teenage wizard.
